Udyam registration is official government recognition for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises. Any manufacturing or service business qualifies based on investment and turnover thresholds: Micro (investment up to ₹1 crore, turnover up to ₹5 crore), Small (up to ₹10 crore / ₹50 crore), Medium (up to ₹50 crore / ₹250 crore).
DPIIT-recognised startups can avail: (a) income tax exemption for 3 years under Section 80-IAC, (b) angel tax exemption under Section 56(2)(viib), (c) self-certification under 9 labour laws and 3 environmental laws, and (d) fast-track patent examination at 80% fee concession.
Any person or entity importing or exporting goods or services from India must hold a valid IEC issued by DGFT. IEC is not required for personal imports below the de minimis threshold. IEC has no renewal requirement — it is valid for the lifetime of the entity.
FSSAI registration or licence is mandatory for any food business operator — manufacturers, processors, distributors, retailers, restaurants, caterers, and online food sellers. The type of licence (Basic, State, or Central) depends on your annual turnover and scale of operations.
IEC is typically issued within 1–2 working days on the DGFT portal when all documents are correctly submitted. Required documents: PAN of the entity, active bank account details, and office address proof.
